Our committed volunteers are ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round, attending bush and grass fires to house and structure fires and assisting at road accidents and other events like floods, storms and searches.
The NSW RFS is committed to developing the capability of members, so they can respond appropriately, effectively and safely in times of emergency. The NSW RFS offers a wide variety of training programs to cater to the different operational and non-operational needs of the Service.
Many NSW RFS brigades offer junior or cadet membership for young people aged from 12 years, however these opportunities vary from area to area depending on a brigade's capacity to supervise, mentor and develop junior members.
Please Note: During bush fire season, application response times to join the NSW RFS can be significantly delayed due to the firefighting effort by brigades and NSW RFS personnel. We appreciate your patience.
Before applying, consider the kind of role you could take on, and the time you can spare. We encourage you to attend open days, information sessions and events at your local brigade where volunteers can help you decide whether joining is right for you.
